Laura M. Madelone joined the Office of Alumni Affairs in October 2008. As Director, Laura provides strategic direction for every aspect of alumni affairs programming. She is the Executive Officer of the Alumni Association's Board of Directors. She also manages alumni and campus volunteers; develops alumni communications; and supervises the development of programming for students and alumni. Laura received both her B.S. in political science and her M.S. in higher education administration from Syracuse University. Laura is also a 2003 graduate of the Leadership Greater Syracuse program and a 2007 honoree of 40 Under 40 Syracuse. The 40 Under 40 honor highlights individuals younger than 40 who have made significant contributions as leaders in the workplace and community.

The manager of the Office of Alumni Affairs is our secretary, Ellen Shufelt ’84H. Ellen has worked in Alumni Affairs for over 30 years, and she was the first individual named an honorary alumna of the College. Ellen serves as editorial assistant for Reflections and Recording Secretary of the Alumni Association. She is invaluable in the planning and implementation of special events and keeps us all in forward motion. She is the cheery voice at the end of the phone line and a calm and helpful presence in all situations. Ellen has an incredible knack for putting people at ease.

Miriam
Murray joined our staff in the fall of 2009, as the Coordinator of Alumni
and Student Programs. Miriam received her B.A. from Geneseo in 2005 and
is currently working on her M.A. in Adult Education. She works closely with
current students and young alumni to provide quality networking events and
programs, both on and off-campus. She coordinates and implements logistics for
aspects of Homecoming and Family Weekend, Young Alumni regional events, and
certain major on-campus traditions. Miriam serves as the advisor for both
the Senior Class and the Young Alumni Council and works to engage both groups
in her mission to promote Oneonta pride.

Kathy Hewlett has served the Office of Alumni Affairs since 1998. She is responsible for updating alumni records and performs all data entry for gifts to the College. She also compiles and writes the ever-popular and expanding “Class Notes” section of Reflections magazine. She has exceptional organization skills and keeps our resources and offices in fine order. She’s been given the title “Sherlock” in recognition of her ability to find lost alumni, reconnect classmates, and verify facts and figures. She is currently enrolled as a part-time student at the College majoring in History.

Donna Chase joined our staff in the fall of 2002, as a clerk in charge of gift and data entry. Over the years, she has learned a great deal about our database and integrating technology in all aspects of our work and currently holds the title of Alumni Affairs Database Manager. A previous stint with the United States Postal Service enables her to speak “postal,” so she has helped us to streamline our mailings and increase our returns of changed addresses. She is a crucial member of the Red Dragon Open Golf Tournament team, and she chaired a consortium of database users from several SUNY colleges and continues to act as alternate chair.

Kyle is the newest member of the Alumni Affairs family, joining the office in February 2009 as Publications Assistant. He received his B.S. in Theatre from SUNY Oneonta in December 2008. As Publications Assistant, Kyle manages all the virtual relationships with alumni, including but not limited to managing content on the Alumni Online Community, email communications to alumni, updating information, event registration and our e-newsletter. As of his start date, Kyle is the first guy to work in the office in thirty years.
